The Winmau World Masters in 2014 were held from October 9-12 and got a surprise winner in Martin Phillips. The veteran Welshman had to wait long for his first major title, but now he has finally got it.
In the final he beat Englishman Jamie Hughes 7-3. On his way to the final he beat Andy Boulton, Rhys Hayden, Mark McGeeney and Glen Durrant. His opponent in the final, Jamie Hughes, a relative newcomer to the top but still in seeded sixth beats a great list of names en route to the final. Shayne Burgess, Pip Blackwell, Alan Norris and Martin Adams all lost to Hughes.
Martin Philips with this victory became the third Welshman to win the Winmau World Masters, after Alan Evans in 1975 and Richie Burnett in 1994.
