1976 Marks the first year of sponsorship from Winmau for the World Masters. A relationship that still exists today. This fact alone makes Winmau quite unique in the world of sports.

Winner of the tournament was the Englishman John Lowe, who on his way to victory beat Alan Evans, Tommy O'Regan and Javier Gopar in the latter stages of the tournament.

Striking factoid of this tournament is that the four semi-finalists were from four different countries. An Englishman, a Welshman, an American and an Australian. Darts was becoming increasingly international!
