Englishman John Lowe won the seventh World Masters tournament. In the final, he beat Rab Smith from Scotland. 

At the Wembley conference centre in London, Lowe won the final 2-0. Last years winner Eric Bristow lost in the quarterfinals to the Scot Jocky Wilson. Who was beaten by the eventual winner John Lowe in the semis.

The diversity of nationalities in the last 16 of the Winmau World Masters was striking. There were eight Englishmen, two Scots, a Northern Irishman, a Welshman, a Swede, a Canadian, an American and a Finn in this round.
