The eighties of the last century were the years when there was only one dart king. Eric Bristow was the king, and in 1983 he won the Winmau World Masters for the fourth time in history.
In the semi-finals he beat John Lowe and in the final The Crafty Cockney defeated his compatriot Mike Gregory 2-1.
The Dutch Leo den Oude, Ellis Elsevijf and Pieter Kessels all lost in the first round. Elsevijf was allowed to compete against the Scot Jocky Wilson, but had no chance in this game.
Three Belgians came to the last 32, but for all three, this was also the terminus during this edition of the Winmau World Masters. George de Vacht, Daniel Serie and Gustaff Meulenmeester lost respectively to Arnie Bunn, Peter Chandler and John Lowe.
