The Winmau World Masters in 1978 became a prey for the Englishman Ronnie Davis. He defeated his compatriot Tony Brown in the final 2-1. Once again the Wembley Conference Centre in London was the playground for the Winmau World Masters.
The English dominated the tournament. In the last 16 no less than 14 were Englishmen. The other two players were a Scot (Rab Smith) and an American (Conrad Daniels). The American even reached the quarterfinals but lost that one to the later finalist Tony Brown.
The first prize for this edition was 3001 pounds.
