In 1979 Eric Bristow won his second Winmau World Masters. On his way to victory he defeated among others Dave Whitcombe, Dick McGinnis, Bobby George and Allan Hogg.
The latter was the big surprise of this tournament. The Canadian, also a two time participant at the Embassy, played the tournament of his life, but could not cope in the final against The Crafty Cockney.
The tournament was played again at the Wembley conference centre in London.
