The 2024 Lakeside WDF World Championship was held from 29 November to 8 December at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green. Twenty-four players from all over the world qualified to take a shot at the title. The English Beau Greaves was the defending champion and would successfully defend her title.
Beau Greaves was the big favourite in advance and she lived up to that role. On her way to the final, she did not lose a set against Kirsi Viinikainen, Jitka Cisarova and Deta Hedman in succession. Her opponent in the final is surprisingly the 18-year-old Scottish Sophie McKinlay who played a fantastic tournament. McKinlay also plays in the girls' tournament where she also reaches the final.
In the women's tournament, McKinlay beats big names such as Lisa Ashton, Irina Armstrong and Aileen de Graaf. In the semi-final, she wins against the Dutch Lerena Rietbergen. In the final, McKinlay also manages to steal the first set from Beau Greaves, but that's about it. Greaves gets into her rhythm better and wins 12 of the last 14 legs and thus crowns herself the best in the women's category for the third year in a row. With three world titles, she is now equal with Anastasia Dobromyslova, one title behind Lisa Ashton. The list is currently still headed by Trina Gulliver with 10 titles.
