For the first time since the Ladies World Championship was introduced, Trina Gulliver did not become world champion. In the final the English ace lost to Anastasia Dobromyslova, who managed to win the Lakeside tournament at her second attempt.
Dobromyslova saw off qualifiers in the quarter- and semi-final. First she defeated Dee Bateman and in the semi final she beat Stephanie Smee. Smee surprised in the quarterfinals by beating the number one seed Francis Hoenselaar 2-0. The match between Karin Krappen and Rilana Erades in the quarterfinal was a Dutch clash, won by Krappen. She was not strong enough to stop Gulliver in the semi-final however.
