Rab Butler makes it to the television events as referee at a relatively late age. He replaces Steve Nicolas in that capacity. Butler calls from 2004 untill 2012 at all the BDO TV tournaments and also calls on various opens including the Dutch Open.
He started as a referee in 1992, like most UK callers for his county Cumbria, he then progressed through Yorkshire. Before his caller career starts at the big tournaments, Butler works for the Royal Navy, that's where his nickname 'Uncle Albert' also comes from.
Meanwhile Butler has retired from darts in 2012 and is no longer present on stage at the TV tournaments. The younger generation with Marco Meijer, Huw Ware and Anthony Dundas have taken over the baton.
First World Championship in 2004, last in 2012.
