Trina Gulliver also wins the second edition of the Ladies World Championships. The Golden Girl proved to be too strong for her rival Francis Hoenselaar, who played her first World Championship final.
After four competitors in 2001, 2002 saw eight players compete for the title. Gulliver already faced a strong opponent in the quarterfinals. She defeated Mandy Solomons in a repeat of the 2001 final. In the semi-final she beat Belgian number four seed Vicky Pruim. Hoenselaar saw off Stacy Bromberg in the quarterfinal and reached the final by beating Sandra Greatbatch 2-0.
