In 2013 Michael van Gerwen was the absolute favourite to win the UK Open. Having won the Premier League and a lot of Pro Tours, Van Gerwen went to Bolton with a lot of confidence. In the end, Van Gerwen could not manage to win the title. He was defeated 10-7 in the quarterfinals by Phil Taylor, who went on to claim the UK Open title.
Peter Wright shows an outstanding performance in Bolton by beating Adrian Lewis and reaching the semi-finals. Raymond van Barneveld also reaches the semi-finals on the UK Open, but in this match he missed three matchdarts for his spot in the final. Andy Hamilton punishes him and proceeds to the final.
English ace Wes Newton manages to hit a nine-darter during this tournament. He did this at a board without tv coverage, so we did not see this moment on live television. Because of this, Newton’s nine darter does not count as a TV-nine darter.
