John McDonald was the man that had to fill the shoes of Phil Jones as master of ceremonies with the PDC. He works for the PDC since February 2007. John started as a announcer for Barry Hearn in boxing.
Before his MC career he first was a paratrooper in the British army but after an accident he had to switch and started to work as a freelance photographer for TV. Between 1982 and 1994 he travelled around the world to report from important sports events, but he wanted to be closer to sports and that’s why he became an announcer. He has announced players in various world championships such as boxing, snooker, pool, bowling and fishing.
Made his debut in darts during the 2004 showdown between Andy Fordham and Phil Taylor. After that he did the 2005 World Matchplay and the 2006 Premier League. With his boxing like announcing he adds an extra dimension to a tournament. Besides his work as an announcer John is also very involved in various charities, among others for British paratroopers.
