In 2010 Phil Taylor is the absolute favourite to lift the trophy. He hit two nine darters a few weeks before the start of the tournament and seems invincible. Big surprise of the tournament is the absence of Raymond van Barneveld. He did not manage to qualify, because he did not play enough qualifying tournaments. Vincent van der Voort disappointed in Bolton by losing to Wayne Atwood in his first match. He is not the only Dutchman losing early in the tournament. Co Stompé and Michael van Gerwen both lose their first match; Roland Scholten and Jelle Klaasen were defeated in their second match.
The last 16 features some fantastic matches. In a repeat of the World Championships 2010 final between Phil Taylor and Simon Whitlock, The Power wins 9-6. During the match between Mervyn King and Gary Anderson, The King hits a nine darter, but the Scotsman takes the victory. In the quarterfinals produces Tony Ayres a huge upset. Ayres defeats James Wade in a last-leg decider and plays Gary Anderson in the semi-finals. The Scotsman ends the surprising run of Ayres and faces Phil Taylor in the final. The Power has an excellent start and holds his lead to claim the UK Open trophy for the fourth time.
