From 28 February to 2 March, the 23rd UK Open was played at the Butlins Resort in Minehead. 157 players made a bid for the final victory. In the end, it was Luke Littler who managed to win his first title after a victory in the final against James Wade.
The tournament starts for the world champion in the last 64 with a match against Peter Wright. It becomes an exciting duel that is narrowly won 10-9 by ‘The Nuke’. One round later, Jermaine Wattimena awaits. The Dutchman is in good shape, but has to leave the victory to Littler with 10-4. In the last sixteen, Littler then meets Krzysztof Ratajski. The Pole manages to make it difficult for the Englishman, but it is Littler who still manages to win 10-8.
During the quarter-finals, the two world champions face each other: youth world champion Gian van Veen takes on Luke Littler. It won't be an exciting game, because 'The Nuke' beats the Dutchman 10-4 and advances to the last four. There he will meet Jonny Clayton. Littler also takes this hurdle and wins 11-6. This puts him in the final, where he will meet James Wade.
'The Machine' plays another excellent tournament and will try to win his fourth UK Open title. On his way to the final he wins successively against William Borland (10-3), Cameron Menzies (10-9), Rob Owen, who managed to eliminate Michael van Gerwen in the previous round (10-8), Luke Humphries (10-9) and in the semi-finals 11-2 against Josh Rock. However, it seems that the day has been too long for the experienced Wade, because in the final he clearly cannot keep up with Littler's pace. 'The Nuke' wins convincingly 11-2, which means he wins the UK Open for the first time.
