In 1998 the Winmau World Masters moves to a new location. A new venue for the World Masters, but certainly not in the world of darts. The Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green is the new location, for years known for hosting The Embassy, the annual BDO World Championship.

Karen Lawman seems to have the best feel for this new location. She takes the biggest title of her career by defeating Trina Gulliver 3-2 in the final. Lawman doesn’t get it without a fight this year, as she beat a number of difficult names. In the quarterfinals she beats defending champion Mandy Solomons and in the semi-finals Dutch ace Francis Hoenselaar. For Hoenselaar it is her fourth semi-final, the final has not yet been achieved.
