For the fourth year running The Rainbow Suite is the trusted address where the Winmau World Masters was held in 1985. On 6 and 7 December the best women in the world played against each other.

Almost, for the first time a player managed to win the title for a second time. Sonja Ralphs, who already took the title in 1983, however lost the final to Lilian Barnett from New Zealand. Barnett is the first non-British woman who goes home with the 'title.

Valerie Maytum, born in Britain but living and playing for the Netherlands reached the semi-finals. Never before had a Dutch player performed that well. Maytum lose the semi-final 3-1 to Ralphs.
