The Lakeside World Professional Darts Championship 2016 was held from January 2 till 10 at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green. Scott Waites won the title for the second time in his career. In the one-sided final, he is much too strong for the Canadian Jeff Smith.

Defending champion Scott Mitchell lost in the quarterfinals to the Dutch debutant Richard Veenstra, who is narrowly defeated, a round later by Smith. The favourite at the start of the tournament is Englishman Glen Durrant, but he does not get past the eventual winner in the quarterfinals despite a 4-2 lead.

Waites also beats Willem Mandigers, Geert de Vos and Jamie Hughes en route to his second Lakeside title. Jeff Smith owed his participation to the fact that he had had reached the semi-finals a year earlier. Therefore, the Canadian had to start in the preliminary round in which he defeated Dutchman Matthew Medhurst. After that Martin Adams, Brian Dawson, Dennis Harbour and Richard Veenstra also got beaten.
