The 2024 Lakeside WDF World Championship was held from 29 November to 8 December at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green. Forty-eight players from all over the world qualified to take a shot at the title. Defending champion Andy Baetens was not present, he now plays for the PDC.

It was be the year of Paul Lim and Shane McGuirk. Paul Lim is participating at Lakeside for the first time since 1994 and is now 70 years old. That does not stop him from putting in a fantastic run on his return. In the last year of a two-year ranking, Danny Porter from Australia is surprisingly the number one seed, but he cannot use his seeding. He loses to the Belgian Francois Schweyen in his first match. Seeds Number 6 Liam Maendl-Lawrance, 7 Kai Fan Leung and 8 Benjamin Pratnemer also lose in the first round.

Another big favorite for the title, Jimmy van Schie, loses in the second round to fellow countryman and Dutch Open winner Jarno Bottenberg. He in turn loses in the quarterfinals in a deciding set to Paul Lim. American Jason Brandon wins in the quarterfinals against 2022 World Champion Neil Duff. Shane McGuirk has no problems with Australian Peter Machin and Francois Schweyen also reaches the semifinals by winning 4-0 against Swiss Thomas Junghans.

Both semifinals provide little spectacle. Shane McGuirk has not yet lost a set in the tournament and he does not do so here either when he beats Schweyen 5-0. Paul Lim also does not lose a set against Jason Brandon and thus reaches the final of the Lakeside World Championship 30 years after his last appearance. That is where the fairytale ends. When McGuirk wins all of the first 4 sets, it is only a matter of time before he takes the victory. After the Northern Irishman Duff in 2022, it is now the first time that an Irishman has won the World Championship. He also does it on his debut.
