The 1984 Embassy World Darts Championship were held from December 31, 1983 to January 7, 1984 at Jollees Cabaret Club in Stoke-on-Trent. Eric Bristow made up for his 6-5 defeat against Keith Deller in the 1983 final by defeating the number three seed Dave Whitcombe in the final by a crushing 7-1. Bristow never even lost a set throughout the championship apart from the one Whitcombe got in the final. Keith Deller, the reigning world champion and number 6 seed, suffered a shock first round defeat to Nicky Virachkul from the USA.

The 1984 Championships didn’t have many upsets, the semi finals featured the numbers one, two, three and five in the world. Number four in the world was Cliff Lazarenko who got beat by Ceri Morgan in the first round. A couple of new players who would make a name for themself in later years made their debut at this event in 1984. Mike Gregory reached the quarterfinals and Bob Anderson would loose first round
