The 2020 BDO World Professional Darts Championship was held from 4 to 12 January at Indigo at the O2 in London. 40 players from all over the world took a shot at the title. The Welshman Wayne Warren takes the world title for the first time and is therefore also the oldest world champion ever. For the first time since 1986 the tournament moves to a new venue. The new BDO board relocates it from the Lakeside Country Club to London. The Indigo at the O2 will be the new location.

Already in the preliminary round the curtain falls for a number of well-known players: Ross Montgomery, John O'Shea and David Cameron cannot get past their first hurdle. In the same preliminary round no Dutchman will take action, but in the first round no less than seven Dutchmen will be at the oche. Gino Vos loses to fellow countryman Martijn Kleermaker. In addition to Kleermaker, Chris Landman, Wesley Harms, Dennie Olde-Kalter and Richard Veenstra also qualified for the second round. The number eight seed Willem Mandigers loses 3-1 to Michael Unterbuchner. Dave Parletti (against Landman), Nick Kenny (against Olde-Kalter) and Gary Robson (after a 2-0 lead) lose their first game as placed players. Adam Smith-Neale is also going down: he loses 3-0 to Paul Hogan, who misses the double eighteen for the second nineteenth ever at the BDO World Championship. Wayne Warren, who is the number five seed, won 3-2 against Justin Thompson.

In the last sixteen things are going fast for the Dutch. Harms, Veenstra, Olde-Kalter and Kleermaker all lose in the second round. Harms' elimination in particular is a painful one since he was the number one seed in this tournament. He loses 4-2 to Scott Waites. Chris Landman knows how to reach the quarterfinals. He beats Ben Hazel 4-3 after an exciting game. Former PDC World Championship finalist Andy Hamilton is not up to Wayne Warren (4-1).
The last remaining Dutchman also loses in the quarterfinals. Chris Landman has to bow his head to Wayne Warren 5-3. Jim Williams and Mario Vandenbogaerde also join the last four, just like former winner Scott Mitchell. After a fascinating fight, he manages to settle 5-4 with Scott Waites. Mitchell is then unable to qualify for his second final ever, as he is battled in the semi-finals against Warren (6-3). Williams becomes the other finalist, after a 6-4 win over Vandenbogaerde.

or the first time, two players from Wales are facing each other in a World Championship final. After Leighton Rees, Richie Burnett and Mark Webster, there will be a world champion from Wales for the fourth time. It is Wayne Warren who ultimately claims the title. After the start of the game is very exciting, he manages to run away from Williams at the end. With an average of 93.59, Warren manages to win the final by 7-4, making him the oldest world champion ever at the age of 57.
