The Lakeside World Professional Darts Championship 2014 was held from January 5 till 13. Victory goes to the number three seed, Englishman Scott Waites. He defeats his compatriot Tony O'Shea in the final comfortably.
The defending champion Christian Kist from the Netherlands is knocked out in the first round. He loses to Englishman Robbie Green who is ranked number five. Kist has played few tournaments in the last season and is therefore unseeded for this edition. Besides Kist, triple world champion Martin Adams also loses in the first round. It is for the first time since 2004 that Adams can pack his bags after just one match. Dutchman Jimmy Hendriks proves too strong for Wolfie in the deciding set.
Scott Waites is already prior to the tournament one of the big favorites, along with Stephen Bunting. Waites is never in trouble during the tournament. Comfortable victories over Willy van de Wiel, Geert de Vos, Paul Jennings and Richie George put him in the final. In it Tony O'Shea, who until then played a fine tournament, cannot pose a real threat. The final is won 7-1 by Waites. O'Shea with this defeat becomes the first player to lose the first three World Championship finals he plays in.
On behalf of The Netherlands Wesley Harms again playes excellent. For the second year in a row he reaches the semifinals where he must bow out to Tony O'Shea, also for the second year in a row.
