No less than 8 Dutchmen stood at the start of the 2009 World Championship and no less than 3 make it to the quarter finales. Co Stompé loses there from Phil Taylor, and the other two have to play against each other in another quarter finale. Raymond van Barneveld takes his revenge for losing the BDO WC finale in 2006 by winning from Jelle Klaasen. And to match that, he also throws the first ever PDC WC 9-darter. The result is a finale that could have been predicted between the numbers 1 and 2 of the world Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld. It wont be the exciting match of 2 years prior, because Taylor is out for blood and gives the Dutchman few chances. Even though Van Barneveld is throwing well, and trying his hardest, he loses 1-7 from an unleashed Taylor. That 8 of the played sets end up in 3-2 is something that you then quickly forget.

For the first time in 9 years, a lady also presents herself on the WC stage. The Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova made the transfer to the PDC, right after she wins the WC title at the BDO. It’s a transfer without many successes. On this WC she loses the preliminaries to the Dutchman Remco van Eijden.
