Every year you can hang a certain name on the World Championship. In 2010 that name was Simon Whitlock. The Australian just transferred to the PDC and qualified himself for the World Championship through the Australian preliminaries.
Whitlock stood in the 2008 finales of the BDO World Championship at Lakeside, but everyone at the PDC seems to have forgotten that, because in the beginning he’s not even considered an outsider. He would though, quickly make a name for himself, when he wins the first round from Colin Osborne, and a round later Wayne Jones.
The winning streak that follows is one for the books; Terry Jenkins, James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld are all impressively beaten, and that’s how the Australian places himself into the finales, where Taylor is waiting for him. It’s a brilliant finale, one that’s really exciting in the first 6 sets, but then Taylor takes the leap ahead. He wins with 7-3 in sets, but Whitlock made a name for himself. He also makes the record of 180’s thrown in the WC, he throws 58. Next to that he also threw 2 170 finishes. Even still, the king of darts takes his 15th WC title; Phil Taylor.
Simon Whitlocks opponent in the BDO WC finale was Mark Webster, whom also plays the WC of this year. He kick 4 top 32 players out of the game before he himself is stopped by Phil Taylor in the semi finale.
