Rarely has anyone ever been so dominant as Phil Taylor has been in the 1998 WC. Right from the get-go he shows everyone that he is the only one who will be taking that cup home, back to Stoke-On-Trent. Rod Harrington alone is able to take 2 sets off of the man in the semi finale, nobody else gets anything off of Taylor the entire competition. Not even Dennis Priestley, who is yet again his opponent in the finale. Dennis the Menace loses 0-6.

!998 is also the year for new names in the PDC, with Peter Manley as the most well known out of them. The BDO also loses a champion this year, Canadian John Part, who would not make it past the poule fase in 1988.
