The eleventh edition of the German Darts Championship was held in Hildesheim, Germany from October 13 to 15. Home player Ricardo Pietreczko surprisingly took the title after a victory in the final over Peter Wright.

Prior to the tournament, Pietreczko is not yet sure of participating in the European Championships and therefore wants to achieve a good series in Hildesheim. He starts the tournament against Mickey Mansell and manages to beat the Northern Irishman 6-4. Compatriot Martin Schindler awaits in the second round: Pietreczko throws an average of over 107 and beats Schindler 6-2. A round later it is George Killington who is defeated with the same figures, after Killington was too strong for Dirk van Duijvenbode a round earlier (6-0). In the first round, Killington beat Scott Waites 6-5, after Waites managed to throw a nine-darter in the ninth leg.

Pietreczko will meet Stephen Bunting in the quarter-finals. It will be a great match in which both men throw an average of over a hundred. In the end it is 'Pikachu' who manages to win 6-4 and secure a place in the last four. Here he plays against Michael van Gerwen. It will be an exciting match, in which Pietreczko takes a big lead, but Van Gerwen battles back to 6-6. The last leg may be started by the Dutchman, but thanks to a beautiful 10-darter it is Pietreczko who manages to reach his first big final at the PDC.

In that final he will meet number three in the world, Peter Wright. 'Snakebite' has a good weekend in Hildesheim and successively beats Chris Dobey (6-2), Nico Kurz (6-3), Damon Heta (6-4) and Luke Humphries (7-5). Not the best averages are thrown in the final, but it is soon clear that Pietreczko is the strongest: with an unprecedented doubles percentage of 100%, the German beats the Scot 8-4 and crowns himself winner of the German Darts Championship 2023. He is the second German (after Max Hopp) to win a EuroTour tournament. This title definitively qualifies him for the European Championships and also earns him a place at the Grand Slam of Darts.
