The twelfth edition of the German Darts Championship were held in Hildesheim, Germany from august 30th to September 1st. Peter Wright takes home the trophy after beating Luke Littler in the final, who lost despite an average of 106.87.
Wright starts the tournament in the first round against the German Niko Springer, who he beat 6-4. In the second round he is up against Englishman Stephen Bunting. After an exciting match that ended in 6-5, The Bullet gets send home. Snakebite is unstoppable and beats Dutchman Gian van Veen 6-4 in the next round. In the quarter finals it’s Michael van Gerwen that bites the dust after a spectacular match where both men put down amazing averages, with van Gerwen reaching 104.10, and Wright reaching a staggering 108.90. In the end it’s Snakebite that stands victorious. In the semi-finals he beats Dave Chisnall 7-5.
Peter Wright places for the final against Englishman Luke Littler. It’s the first final for Snakebite since he played this same exact stage almost a year ago here in Hildesheim. The Nuke starts his tournament in the second round and reaches the final after winning against Dylan Slevin (6-0), Ryan Searle (6-2), Damon Heta (6-5) and Daryl Gurney (7-2).
Luke Littler starts the final off strong and takes a 3-0 lead. Wright then manages to take a leg for 3-1. The men then proceed to keep their own legs until 5-2. Snakebite catches steam and finishes the next leg with 146 for 5-3. The Scotsman then takes hold of the game and doesn’t lose another leg, winning five in a row for the match. Littler throws an immensely high average of 106.87 but can’t hit any of the doubles anymore.
This is the ninth EuroTour victory for Peter Wright, and his second win at the German Darts Championship, which he won for the first time in 2017. The Scotsman appears to be a big fan of the German stages, winning eight of his nine victories there. His final EuroTour trophy was won in May 2023, and was consequently the only one he won outside of Germany; The Czech Darts Open the Czech Republic.
