The ninth edition of the German Darts Championship waas held from 25 to 27 September in Halle 39 in Hildesheim. For the eighth time a new name is added on the cup. This year, Devon Petersen is the best in Hildesheim. He beats Jonny Clayton in the final 8-3. After a long time under Corona measures, this is the first EuroTour tournament after the first outbreak in March 2020.
The South African has already had his best year ever in the PDC, but it had not resulted in a title so far. This tournament he proves that he can also win. With victories over Jeffrey de Zwaan, Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross, Krzysztof Ratajski and Danny Noppert on his way to the final, you can also be sure that he did not get a free ride.
Jonny Clayton had to win his first match to qualify for the World Grand Prix, so there was a lot of pressure on that. The Welshman coped well with that pressure and beat Chris Dobey 6-4. After that, Peter Wright, Dave Chisnall and Mervyn King were also defeated. In the final Clayton is immediately broken in the first leg and when a second break follows in leg five, the final is quickly decided. In the end the score is 8-3 for Petersen.
It is Devon Petersen's first victory in the PDC and therefore also on the EuroTour, The African Warrior is the 29th player to win on the EuroTour. Until this victory, he had never managed to get past the last 16 on a European stage. For Clayton it is his second EuroTour final, but he remains on one win.
