The seventh edition of the European Darts Open was played from 23 to 25 March. For the second time, the Ostermann Arena in Leverkusen is the host. In 2018 the European Darts Open is the first EuroTour tournament of the year.
Peter Wright reaches the final of this tournament for the third year in a row. After victories over Luke Woodhouse, John Henderson, Joe Cullen and James Wade, Michael van Gerwen awaits in the final. Van Gerwen himself beats Cameron Menzies, Alan Norris, Simon Whitlock and Richard North. In the final, Peter Wright takes a 5-1 lead, but sees Mighty Mike draw level after ten legs. Snakebite yet again takes a 7-5 lead. However, he can not take the win, Wright misses a matchdart on the bullseye and must allow Van Gerwen to win the last three legs in a row and take the win with 8-7.
For Michael van Gerwen it is his 21st EuroTour title and his third at the European Darts Open. For Peter Wright it is his twelfth EuroTour final, but he will remain on six titles. It is also the sixth time that both gentlemen face each other in the final on a EuroTour stage.
