The eleventh edition of the European Darts Open was held from 21 to 26 June at the Ostermann Arena in Leverkusen. Dave Chisnall takes home the title after beating his fellow countryman Ross Smith in the final.
Chisnall starts the tournament in the second round against Luke Woodhouse. It’s an exciting match where both men put out an average of 100+, but in the end its Chisnall that takes the win 6-5. In the next round he’s up against Dutchman Kevin Doets, who loses 6-4. In the quarter finals it’s another exciting match against the German Martin Schindler, but he too must leave the tournament after a 6-5 defeat. In the semi-finals he knocks out Australian Damon Heta with 7-1.
Dave Chisnall places for the final against Ross Smith. Smudger also starts his tournament in the second round and reaches the final after beating Callan Rydz (6-2), Josh Rock (6-5), Gian van Veen (6-5) and Michael Smith (7-5).
It’s a sizzling final where they stay head-to-head. The score is 4-3 when Chizzy takes a leg from Smith and races ahead to 6-3. Smith does not give up and fights back to 6-6, including a 144 finish in the tenth leg. Chisnall then takes the 11th leg with a 132 finish and then the game is played. Dave Chisnall wins the tournament 8-6.
With seven EuroTour victories and seven more finals under his belt, Dave Chisnall is a true EuroTour veteran. Although, he has never won on the same stage twice.
