European Darts Open

In 2012 the PDC launches the Euro Tour. On the European continent, the Pro Tour tournaments disappear and the tournaments are played on big stages with big audiences in the venue.

The European Darts Open is on the calendar from the first year and is played for five years in the Maritim hotel in Düsseldorf. For many players and officials, this was the favourite stop on the EuroTour because of it’s location and atmosphere. However, the venue is eventually too small and the tournament is moved to the Ostermann Arena in Leverkusen in 2017.

Raymond van Barneveld wins the first edition of the European Darts Open. Robert Thornton is also the strongest once; In 2015. Peter Wright wins the title twice and also loses two finals. Simon Whitlock takes the silver twice in Düsseldorf. Michael van Gerwen is the king of the tournament; he wins three times in 2013, 2016 and 2018.
