The European Darts Open was held in Leverkusen, Germany from May 6-8. In the end it was Michael van Gerwen who won this tournament for the fifth time. In the final he dealt with Dimitri van den Bergh.
Van Gerwen manages to win 6-3 against Daryl Gurney in his first game. The Dutchman records an average of 113.79. A round later there is immediately a big game on the program: Van Gerwen takes on Jonny Clayton. Both men throw around a 100 average, but it is 'Mighty Mike' who manages to win 6-4.
In the quarterfinals Van Gerwen will meet his compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode. It will be an exciting match that will eventually be decided 6-5 in favor of Van Gerwen. During the semi-finals, the title holder will play against Luke Humphries. It will be a simple 7-2 victory for Van Gerwen, after which he will face Dimitri van den Bergh in the final (who received a bye in the semi-finals due to an ill James Wade). Where Van Gerwen averages above 100, the Belgian achieves an average of just below 90. In the end, it is Van Gerwen who wins the match 8-5, meaning that he wins the European Darts Open for the third time in a row.
