The fifth edition of the World Series Finals was played in the Afas Live Arena in Amsterdam from 1 to 3 November. Michael van Gerwen secured his fourth title after an all Dutch final against Danny Noppert. The world number one was way too strong for his fellow countryman. In a one-sided final Van Gerwen beat Noppert 11-2.

Van Gerwen only got tested in the second round against Welshman Gerwyn Price. ‘The Iceman’ took a 4-2 lead, but Van Gerwen turned the match around and won 6-5. The world number one secured his spot in the final after comfortable victories over Jonny Clayton and Austrian ace Mensur Suljovic.

Danny Noppert’s road to the final started on Friday. ‘Noppie’ started with a win over Dutchman Jeffrey de Zwaan. Noppert beat former world champion Garry Anderson on Saturday. The Scot did not show up at all and had to leave the AFAS Live with a 6-1 defeat and an average of just 71.05. The Dutchman had to go all the way in his matches against Ian White (10-9) and Dave Chisnall (11-10). The home favourite even survived two match darts in his semi-final against ‘Chizzy’. Through his appearance in the Final, Noppert secured a spot for the 2019 Grand Slam of Darts.

Raymond van Barneveld was not able to end his last tournament on home soil as he wanted to. ‘Rvb’ started off well and beat Jermaine Wattimena 6-4 with a 101 average. In the quarterfinal against Dave Chisnall the Dutchman took a 7-5 lead, but Chisnall managed to win 10-8.
