In 2022, the eighth edition of the World Series of Darts Finals was held from September 16 to 18. The best eight players from the World Series events, supplemented by 16 qualifiers and wildcards from around the world played for the title in the AFAS Live in Amsterdam.
The tournament is characterized by many matches that are close. The tournament is played at a high level and almost all matches are close. After the invited players have played each other in the first round, the seeded players are added in round two. Of the eight seeded players, two do not survive their first round. Dimitri Van den Bergh loses 6-2 to Ryan Joyce and Gary Anderson 6-3 to Dirk van Duijvenbode.
In the quarterfinals Gerwyn Price beats Joe Cullen 10 to 8 and then also beats James Wade in the semi-finals 11-9. Dirk van Duijvenbode beats Ryan Joyce in the quarterfinals in a decisive leg and also beats defending champion Johnny Clayton in the semi-final. Clayton had beaten home favourite Michael van Gerwen in the quarterfinals.
In the final the difference is never very big. Initially Gerwyn Price takes a 4-2 lead, but not much later it is already 4-4. From that moment on, the difference is never greater than one leg. In the 17th leg, Gerwyn Price seems to force the decision when he manages to break Dirk van Duijvenbode, but Van Duijvenbode immediately breaks back and takes a 10-9 lead moments later. He then only needs one leg to win, but the last two legs go to Gerwyn Price, who crowns himself the winner of the World Series Finals for the second time in his career.
