The ninth edition of the World Cup of Darts was played from 6 to 9 June 2019 in Hamburg. For the first time Team Scotland won the title. After two silver medals, Peter Wright and Gary Anderson were allowed to put the gold medal around their neck for the first time.

In the first round the Scots had no problems: with an average of 101.55 a 5-0 victory is booked against Denmark. The Netherlands, with Michael van Gerwen and Jermaine Wattimena, manages to deal with Spain with the same figures. The two biggest surprises from the first round are the victories of Singapore and South Africa. The Asians win 5-3 from Wales, while South Africa is too strong for the Northern Irish duo Daryl Gurney and Brendan Dolan in a deciding leg.

In the second round, a deciding pairing match is only needed once: New Zealand, represented by Cody Harris and Haupai Puha, takes a 2-1 win over South Africa. Scotland beat Sweden 2-0, completing the career of Swedish veteran Magnus Caris. The Netherlands will take on Poland and take a 2-0 win. Also in this round there are a few surprises to be noted: for example, the first placed England loses 2-0 to Ireland and Simon Whitlock and Kyle Anderson on behalf of Australia both lose their game 4-3 against Dawson Murschell and Jim Long from Canada.

Michael van Gerwen has to swallow a 4-2 defeat in the quarterfinals against Dawson Murschell, but can eventually prevent elimination with Wattimena: 2-1. Ireland also reached the semi-finals after winning a deciding match. Scotland takes a 2-0 win over Belgium, while Japan also takes a place in the last four after a 2-0 win over New Zealand.

In the semi-finals, the curtain falls for title holder The Netherlands: once again a deciding match is needed and there they lose to Ireland: 4-0. In the other semi-final, Scotland has little trouble with Japan (2-0). The final between Scotland and Ireland starts well for the Irish, as Steve Lennon beats Gary Anderson 4-2. But because Peter Wright managed to win from both William O'Connor and Lennon and both men also won the pairs match in between, Scotland took the title at the World Cup of Darts for the first time in history.
