The fifteenth edition of the PDC World Cup was held from June 13th to 16th at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt. Forty countries battled for the title. After a thrilling tournament, Northern Ireland, featuring Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney, secured their first title after a final against Wales.

Northern Ireland is a seeded team at this year's World Cup and will not yet be playing in the group stage. The Netherlands, with Danny Noppert and Gian van Veen, has been in the mix since the start. However, Noppert and Van Veen had no trouble in the group stage, defeating both Italy and Hungary 4-0. Belgium had a less successful group stage: after a 4-1 victory over Latvia and a 3-0 lead against the Philippines, they still lost 4-3, meaning the Philippines, not Belgium, advanced to the knockout stage. A major setback for Dimitri van den Bergh and Mike de Decker.

Former winners Australia, with Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock, beat Spain and Austria to advance to the next round. Argentina provided the big surprise in the first round: the South Americans were making their first appearance at the World Cup and advanced from a group with Finland and New Zealand. Ireland, South Africa, Sweden, and Switzerland all advanced to the last sixteen with just one win in each group.

Northern Ireland made their debut in the last sixteen, defeating South Africa 8-2 without much difficulty. Wales, with Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton, beat the Philippines by the same score. The Netherlands remained firmly in the tournament and didn't lose a single leg in the first knockout round: Scotland were surprisingly defeated 8-0. But the biggest shock came from hosts Germany, who defeated title favorites England 8-4, with Luke Humphries and Luke Littler in their team, both top two in the world.

In the quarterfinals, Northern Ireland faces Ireland. Initially, the Irish have the upper hand, but Rock and Gurney still manage to win the match 8-5. Wales averages almost 100 and defeats Hong Kong 8-4. The Netherlands loses a few legs for the first time in this tournament, but still manages to defeat the surprising Czechs 8-2. Finally, host country Germany also advances to the next round: Australia is defeated 8-7, after the Australians had already missed several chances to win.

The Netherlands advances to the semifinals without much resistance, but there a real test awaits them: Wales. Ultimately, Price and Clayton win 8-5, meaning the tournament is over for Noppert and Van Veen. Host country Germany has never reached the final and will miss out again this year: Northern Ireland is too strong, winning 8-1, meaning a final between Northern Ireland and Wales.

It promises to be a final that will be talked about for a long time. Both countries play a very strong and exciting match, and for a long time it's unclear which team will take the title. After eighteen legs, the score is 9-9, and a deciding leg is needed. Northern Ireland hits an 11-darter at just the right moment, giving Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney a grand celebration of Northern Ireland's first World Cup title.
