The eleventh edition of the World Cup of Darts was played in Jena, Germany from 9 till 12 September. Two players from 32 countries play as a pair for this title. Defending champion was Wales.
Scotland is eventually the new champion. Peter Wright and John Henderson are too strong for Austria, the very surprising finalist. Mensur Suljovic even secures a lead in the final after a 4-1 win against Henderson, but 'Snakebite' immediately equalizes after a comfortable win against Rowby-John Rodriguez. Austria then heads for a win in the pairs match, but still see the Scots pass by. Wright decides the final by winning 4-3 against 'The Gentle'.
For Wright and Henderson, the tournament starts with a doubles match against China. This is easily won 5-0. Poland then awaits in the second round. The Scots have a much harder time against Krzysztof Kciuk and Krzysztof Ratajski, but still win 2-0. Wright and Henderson then face the Netherlands in the quarterfinals. Michael van Gerwen has no problems with Henderson, but Wright draws the score after a victory against Dirk van Duijvenbode. The pairs match must make the decision and the Scots are just a little stronger on the doubles. Defending champion Wales awaits in the semi-finals. Henderson surprises with a 4-2 win against Gerwyn Price, but Wright loses to Jonny Clayton by the same score line. In the pairs match, the Scots are once again very strong on the doubles and therefore take the win.
Austria starts the World Cup of Darts against the Philippines and easily wins the doubles match 5-1. Belgium is then convincingly defeated. Both Kim Huybrechts and Dimitri van den Bergh are no match for their Austrian opponent. The quarter-final against Northern Ireland is more difficult, as Brendan Dolan manages to beat 'The Gentle'. Rodriguez equalizes by beating Daryl Gurney and the pairs match is won in a decisive leg. Suljovic and Rodriguez then both show their best game in the semi-final against England. Suljovic beats James Wade by 4-1 and 'Little John' beats Dave Chisnall by the same numbers.
