The 10th edition of the International Darts Open was held from 4 to 6 April in the WT Energiesyteme Arena in Riesa. It is the third EuroTour tournament of the year. All top players are present this year, including defending champion Martin Schindler.
Only 5 of the seeded players lose in the first round, including Rob Cross who withdraws before the start of the tournament. His opponent, Martin Schindler, is therefore allowed to advance directly to the next round. Johnny Clayton (5) loses to Raymond van Barneveld and Chris Dobey (9) loses to Wessel Nijman.
Stephen Bunting starts the tournament in the second round against Lithuanian Darius Labanauskas, whom he beats 6-4. In the last 16 he beats Cameron Menzies 6-4. In the quarterfinals he beats Czech Karel Sedlacek 6-2, and, in the semi-finals, he beats top seed Luke Humphries 7-6 for a place in the final.
In the final he faces Englishman Nathan Aspinall. Aspinall starts in the second round and reaches the final after victories over Joe Cullen (6-1), Gerwyn Price (6-5), Josh Rock (6-2) and defending champion Martin Schindler (7-4).
Bunting defeated Nathan Aspinall 8-5 in the final to lift his second trophy in four days, having won Premier League Night Nine in Berlin on Thursday. The Bullet averages 100 in the final to defeat The Asp, who was seeking back-to-back European Tour titles.
The win, which comes almost 11 years since his European Tour debut, sees Bunting break into the top four for the first time and rise to top spot on the PDC ProTour Order of Merit.
