From 12-14 April, the ninth edition of the International Darts Open was held in the Sachsen Arena in Riesa. This is the third EuroTour of 2024. The German Martin Schindler wins his first PDC title with the seniors, after beating Gerwyn Price.
Schindler starts the tournament in the first round against countryman Jan Duecker, whom he beats 6-1. In the second round he is up against the Englishman Joe Cullen, who he sends home after a 3-6 loss. The German is unstoppable and beats Dutchman Richard Veenstra 6-1. In. the Quarter Finals it’s Dutchman Danny Noppert that must leave the tournament after a 6-5 defeat, and in the semi-final Englishman Chris Dobey follow with a 7-3 loss.
Martin Schindler places for the final against Welshman Gerwyn Price. The Iceman starts the tournament in the second round, and reaches the final by beating Brendan Dolan (6-4), Ricardo Pietreczko (6-3), Ross Smith (6-5) and Stephen Bunting (7-5)
Gerwyn Price starts the final off strong with a 2-0 lead. Martin Schindler catches up for 2-2, after which the men stay neck and neck for 4-4. Schindler then takes the lead to 7-4. The Welshman manages to snag another leg, but the game is all but over, as Schindler, after having played 52 EuroTours, wins the first PDC title of his career with an 8-5 victory.
Up until this tournament, Price had played nine EuroTour finals, and only lost the first in 2018 from fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton. Martin Schindler puts an end to Prices eight consecutive EuroTour victories.
