From September 2 till 4 the second edition of the International Darts Open in played in the Sachsen Arena in Riesa and history is made. Mensur Suljovic wins his first Euro Tour tournament. He beats Kim Huybrechts in the final who misses seven match darts to win the title.

In the preliminaries Chris Dobey makes a strong impression, he an 102 average and beats the Pole Krzysztof Ratajski. One round later Dobey is a size too small for Jelle Klaasen. Michael van Gerwen and Daryl Gurney have to be taken out of the tournament last minute due to injury. Ryan Meikle and Yordi Meeuwisse therefore both receive a bye in the second round and meet in round three. Meeuwisse wins and reaches the quarterfinals in which the eventual winner is too strong for him.

The surprise of the tournament is German Dragutin Horvath who beats Ricky Evans, Gerwyn Price and Ian White before bowing out in the quarterfinals to a strong playing Kim Huybrechts.

In the semi-finals Kim Huybrechts beats Benito van de Pas 6-2 and Mensur Suljovic drops just one leg against James Wilson, who also has his first semi-final on the Euro Tour. Suljovic ultimately does not only win a PDC semi-final for the first time, but also wins the final by beating Huybrechts 6-5.
