The International Darts Open 2026 was held from 22 to 24 May in Riesa, Germany, as the eighth event of the 2026 European Tour.
Several seeded players suffered early exits. Top seed Gian van Veen survived his opening match against Connor Scutt, but seventh seed Danny Noppert was eliminated by Ricardo Pietreczko, while sixth seed Josh Rock lost 6–4 to Cameron Menzies. Ninth seed Chris Dobey also exited in the Last 32 after a 6–5 defeat to Kim Huybrechts, who averaged an impressive 104.66.
Ross Smith began his campaign with a convincing 6–3 victory over Joe Cullen, averaging over 102. In the Last 16, he defeated Ricardo Pietreczko 6–4 to reach the quarterfinals. There, Smith edged out Michael van Gerwen 6–5 in a closely contested match to book his place in the semi-finals. His momentum continued against Cameron Menzies, as Smith recorded a dominant 7–0 victory to reach the final without dropping a leg.
On the other side of the draw, Ryan Searle put together one of his strongest European Tour runs. The Englishman opened with a 6–3 victory over Charlie Manby, before defeating Kim Huybrechts 6–1 in the Last 16. In the quarterfinals, Searle continued his strong form to beat top seed Gian van Veen 6–3. His semi-final against Rob Cross ended with Searle winning 7–6 to secure his place in the final.
The final began evenly, but Smith quickly found his rhythm and took control of the contest. Searle struggled to replicate the form he had shown earlier in the weekend, while Smith remained steady on the scoring phase and capitalised on his chances on the doubles. The former European Champion gradually extended his lead and eventually secured an 8–3 victory to claim the title. Smudger proved more clinical and never allowed Searle a route back into the match.
With this triumph, Ross Smith claimed his first European Tour title. Ryan Searle, despite the defeat, enjoyed his deepest run on the 2026 European Tour and his second ever EuroTour final.
