For Ross Smith it is his first final ever and the expectations are that Michael Smith, who is 24 places higher in the world ranking, should win the final. However, reality shows otherwise, Ross Smith plays a fantastic match and although Michael Smith offers very good resistance and makes little mistakes, but he cannot beat Smudger. Ross Smith has an edge from the start, and he never relinquishes it. The Englishman wins his first major by beating Michael Smith 11-8.
