Gibraltar Darts Trophy 2018

Michael van Gerwen won the sixth edition of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy. In the final he defeated Adrian Lewis 8-3. The tournament was played this year from 8 to 10 June at the Victoria Stadium.

In retrospect, Van Gerwen's biggest challenge comes in his first match against his good friend Vincent van der Voort. The man from Purmerend got 4-2 up against his compatriot, but lost the last four legs in a row. Andy Boulton and Jonny Clayton both win only two legs against MVG. In the semi-final van Gerwen then beats Steve West, who for the first time in his career came this far on the EuroTour.

For Adrian Lewis It was his first final on the EuroTour since the German Darts Masters of 2012. Jackpot successively defeated Clayton Otton, Mensur Suljovic, James Wade, Peter Wright and Paul Nicholson. Also for Nicholson it was a long time since he came this far on the EuroTour (European Darts Trophy 2013).

With the victory in Gibraltar, the total of EuroTour wins for Michael van Gerwen now stands at 25 and he has also lost five finals. This means that Van Gerwen achieved at least the final in more than half of all EuroTour tournaments (59) played. Incidentally, MVG 'only' participated in 53 of the 59 tournaments.
