In 2012 the PDC launches the Euro Tour. On the European continent, the Pro Tour tournaments disappear and the tournaments are played on big stages with big audiences in the venue.

In the second year there are eight tournaments in the series. England, Gibraltar, The Netherlands and Austria each get one stop and Germany is visited four times. Sixty-four players compete in the first round on two stages. From the second round the tournament continues on one stage.

The Gibraltar Darts Trophy 2013 was played from 28 to 30 June. In the heat of Gibraltar Phil Taylor is the best. In the final he beats the surprising young Welshman Jamie Lewis. The young man had a minimal chance of qualifying for the World Matchplay before the tournament started. He had to reach the final. Beforehand, no one believed in it, but ultimately Lewis would play the World Matchplay in 2013.

On his way to the final Jamie Lewis defeated Colin Osborne, Robert Thornton, Steve Brown, Kevin Painter and Adrian Lewis. Three of the five games went to an eleventh and decisive leg. In contrast Taylor lost a total of only seven legs in the six games he played. Although there was some debate after his match against Dean Winstanley over a double 12 which was on the wrong side of the wire while the referee counted it as being in.

Ross Smith, in his second round match against Adrian Lewis, hit a nine-darter, the sixth in the history of the Euro Tour.
