The first edition of the European Darts Matchplay was held between 18 and 20 September at the Olympiahalle in Innsbruck. The tournament is the successor of the Austrian Darts Open, which was on the calendar since 2012, but was removed in 2015.
Michael van Gerwen is crowned the first champion in Innsbruck. He defeats Dave Chisnall in the final 6-4 having also beaten Ronny Huybrechts, Raymond van Barneveld, Rowby-John Rodriguez and Robert Thornton on his way to the final. It is Van Gerwen’s eighth victory on the Euro Tour, his fifth in 2015.
Dave Chisnall reaches the final of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time since 2013. Chizzy played a strong tournament with wins over William O'Connor, Terry Jenkins, Peter Wright and David Pallett en route to the final.
Rowby-John Rodriguez plays a wonderful tournament before his home crowd. The young Austrian beats Stefan Stoyke, Simon Whitlock and Mervyn King before Michael van Gerwen beats him. David Pallett also played a great tournament. He reaches the semi-finals of a PDC senior’s tournament for the first time in his career.
