European Darts Matchplay

In 2012 the PDC launches the Euro Tour. On the European continent, the Pro Tour tournaments disappear and the tournaments are played on big stages with big audiences in the venue.

The European Darts Matchplay appears on the calendar in the fourth year of the Euro Tour and is played in Innsbrück that first year. A year later the tournament is moved to Hamburg in Germany, where it has been played since in the Insel Parkhalle. The name of the venue changes in 2018 to edel-optics.de Arena. In 2019 the tournament moves to Mannheim, where the Maimarkthalle is the venue.

The first champion of the European Darts Matchplay is Michael van Gerwen. A year later James Wade lifts the trophy. Van Gerwen reclaims the title in 2017 and defends it successfully in 2018. In 2019 Joe Cullen picks up his very first EuroTour title beating Van Gerwen in the final.
