From 20 to 22 May, the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart hosted the European Darts Grand Prix. The permanent playing location, the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen, was not available this year because it was used as a shelter location for refugees from the Ukraine. In very hot conditions it is Luke Humphries who keeps his head the coolest. After his victories at the German Darts Grand Prix and the Czech Darts Open, this is Luke Humphries' third EuroTour title this season.
Some of the pre-tournament favourites already fall out of the tournament in the first round. For example, Michael van Gerwen loses 6-1 to Martin Lukeman and second-seeded Portuguese Jose de Sousa loses 6-5 to Andrew Gilding. Michael Smith, Dimitri Van den Bergh and Joe Cullen are also out after one game. Luke Humphries beats Ryan Meikle 6-5 with great difficulty and then continues well with victories over Joe Murnan, Brandan Dolan and in the semi-finals, he beats Snakebite Peter Wright.
On the other side of the draw, it is Rob Cross who also starts with a difficult win over Jelle Klaasen but then goes on strong against Krzysztof Ratajski, Rowby-John Rodriguez and in the semi-final he beats Australian Damon Heta.
In the final, Humphries leads 3-1 and extends that lead to 6-3. Nevertheless, Rob Cross does come back in the final, he takes two legs in a row and comes back to 6-5 to see Humphries win the 12th leg. In leg 13, Humphries gets two match darts, but they miss the target. A leg later, Humphries again gets a match dart, but that too misses. In the 15th and decisive leg, it is Humphries who manages to hit the fourth match dart. He finishes from 108 and takes his second Euro Tour title in a row, his third of the year. For Rob Cross, the counter remains at zero in terms of EuroTour victories. He has now lost seven finals.
