The ninth edition of the European Darts Grand Prix was held from 26 to 28 May in Sindelfingen, Germany. Rob Cross managed to win a EuroTour tournament for the first time in his career, after beating Luke Humphries in the final.
Rob Cross's road to victory starts in the second round against Martijn Kleermaker. Cross wins 6-2 and advances to the last sixteen. In this he takes on Ross Montgomery. Again Cross plays a good game and eventually manages to win 6-3. During the quarterfinals, the first real test awaits: Krzysztof Ratajski. The Polish Eagle and the Englishman make it an exciting match, but it is 'Voltage' who wins 6-4. The European champion Ross Smith awaits in the semifinals. Cross throws an average of over 101 and beats Smith 7-4. With this, he is in the final of a EuroTour tournament for the first time this year.
In that final Cross awaits the man who has already been in the final of a EuroTour three times this year: Luke Humphries. Cross's compatriot reaches the final after victories over Chris Dobey (6-5), Raymond van Barneveld (6-2), Gian van Veen (6-4) and Damon Heta (7-5) in the semi-finals. The final then becomes a high-quality and special one: Humphries loses a EuroTour final for the fourth time this year. But perhaps even better is the fact that Rob Cross finally manages to win a EuroTour tournament. The former World Champion has been in a final seven times before, but has never won. This time it is his turn to raise the winner's cup: he beats a well-playing Luke Humphries 8-6 to win the European Darts Grand Prix 2023.
