The eleventh edition of the Austrian Darts Open was held in the Steiermarkhalle in Graz from 26 to 28 April. Jonny Clayton returns to Graz to defend his title.

Six of the sixteen seeded players lose their first match. Most notable here is defending champion Jonny Clayton (1). He loses 6-3 to Jermaine Wattimena. Stephen Bunting (2) and Nathan Aspinall (4) also lose their first match to the Canadian Matt Campbell and Kevin Doets.

Martin Schindler starts the tournament in the second round against the Englishman Matthew Dennant, whom he beats 6-3. In the last 16 he beats Kevin Doets. In the quarterfinals he wins against Chris Dobey and in the semifinals The Wall beats Josh Rock 7-6 and qualifies for the final.

In the final he will face the Englishman Ross Smith. Smudger also starts the tournament in the second round and reaches the final after victories over Chris Landman (6-1), Peter Wright (6-5), Dirk van Duijvenbode (6-4) and Ryan Joyce (7-4).

Schindler landed checkouts of 116 and 115 to take a 7-2 lead in the final, before Smith mounted a comeback with back-to-back legs. However, Schindler took his chance at the third time of asking to seal third European Tour triumph in three different countries.

Schindler defeated Ross Smith 8-4 in the final at the Premstättner Halle to make it a hat-trick of European Tour titles since his first victory in Riesa just over a year ago. The German number one, who won his first Players Championship title in March, jumps up three places to 18th on the PDC Order of Merit.
