The ninth edition of the Austrian Darts Open was held from 21 to 23 April in the Steiermarkhalle in Graz. Jonny Clayton won the tournament for the second time after beating Josh Rock in the final.
Clayton starts the tournament in the last 32 and immediately has a hard match against Jelle Klaasen. 'The Ferret' eventually manages to win 6-5 in a deciding leg. One round later, Clayton throws a 105.89 average to beat Damon Heta 6-4.
In the quarterfinals, Clayton is then too strong for Joe Cullen (6-3), after which he manages to reach the final after a thrilling 7-6 victory over Daryl Gurney. In the final he meets Josh Rock, who has impressed with victories over Krzysztof Ratajski (6-2), Mickey Mansell (6-5) and Mensur Suljovic (6-4). In the semi-finals he meets Michael van Gerwen and the Northern Irishman manages to advance to the final without losing a leg (7-0).
Rock is in the final of a EuroTour tournament for the first time, but he has to leave the title to the winner of 2018. Clayton wins 8-6 and throws an average of 101.36. Rock averages 101.47, but still has to wait for his first EuroTour title.
