The fourth edition of the Autrian Darts Open was held in the Multiverse in Vienna from the 10th till 12th of June. Phil Taylor wins his fourth Euro Tour title by defeating Michael Smith 6-4 in the final.

The fifth edition of the Austrian Darts Open is held at the Multiversum in Vienna from 23 to 25 June. Michael van Gerwen wins his seventeenth EuroTour title by defeating Michael Smith in a thrilling final with 6-5. Title defender Phil Taylor does not return to Austria to defend his title, he announced earlier this year to retire from darts at the end of 2017.

Van Gerwen in Vienna defeats Christian Kallinger, Vincent van der Meer, Martin Schindler and Cristo Reyes, all with ample figures. Against Reyes in the semi-final, the Dutchman scores the highest average ever in this tournament with 115.57

Michael Smith also played a convincing tournament. Victories over Chris Quantock, Jelle Klaasen, Mervyn King and Joe Cullen bring the Englishman into the final. Despite a 170 finish, Bully Boy does not win the final. In the eleventh and decisive leg, Van Gerwen hits a 12-darter against the throw.

For Smith it is the first time he loses a final to Michael van Gerwen after two previous wins. For Gerwen it is his seventeenth EuroTour title from 22 finals.
